Our town’s Festival Parade is this Saturday.  It kicks off our Harvest Homecoming which is the following weekend.  As parades go it’s pretty good.  We’ve seen good years and we’ve seen bad years.  However, we go and we have fun regardless because it’s a parade and we make our own fun!

We always sit on the same street corner and we have since my parents have been going to the parade since it’s existence in 1967.  It’s across the street from the house where my mom grew up and my dad worked at the original New Albany Tribune.  It’s a good spot and everyone knows to find us there.  We take our lunches, drinks, snacks, chairs and whatever else we think we might need and from Noon until 4:00 PM we take over the corner!

If you have never been to the parade, shame on you and come see it this year.  If you’ve missed it for the past few years, come on back.  It’s a nice day.  After the parade IUS offers a Tasting Party and it’s really nice.  It’s quite a few restaurants in New Albany and you can taste their best foods.  Plenty of food and a really good time.

The following day, Sunday is the balloon lift off at IUS (weather permitting) and they have their parking lot filled with pumpkin decorating, jumpy things, music, vending foods, corn hole, mini golf, and some other things for kids.  The balloons lift off around 5:00 PM and it’s always a nice afternoon to watch them lift off.  It’s a great way to spend time with the kiddos!

Nice weekend items for kids if you want them to have a pleasant time outside this weekend and most of the stuff if free except for some of the stuff at IUS requires tickets!  Have fun!

And too, if you sit on that same stretch of street, I’ve heard Baron Hill passes out hugs….

OH MY GOSH, don’t be hatin’ on the Hill baby! I love this man and yes he actually stops and talks to my family every year because we yell at him. We are a big fan of the “Hill” at 4th and Spring baby! He probably looks forward to 4th and Spring, that’s all I’m saying. He’s the man!
