We heard from a few people to try this new Mexican Restaurant in New Albany.  It’s located at 1515 East Market Street right before you get to Tommy Lancaster’s Restaurant.

We decided to try it Sunday afternoon.  Yeah, big mistake.  I can’t imagine what people like about this place.  We had to park around back and lets just say I wouldn’t go there after dark unless I had Jerry with me, or a group of people and even then I’d still have a fear my car would be jacked with based on the neighborhood back there.

The food:  We ordered cheese sauce right off the bat and it was good so I thought, “OK, so far - so good.”  They don’t give you free chips and salsa and what’s up with that?  Do you know of a Mexican Restaurant that doesn’t?  Can you say El’Cheapo?  We decided to order some anyway so we could sample it.

It cost $2.50 and I’m thinking she’ll bring me a bowl of Salsa right?  She brings us three, clear, ketchup bottles full of liquid (yeah she did). One is green, one is orange and one is brown.  None look like salsa.  She explains the green is avocado, the orange is chipolte and the brown is some smokey, flavored crap.  None are any good and here is the thing - you have to either squirt the crap on your chip or squirt the crap on your plate and then try to scrape it up with your chip.  Either way, it sucks.

Moving on……..I ordered the chicken nachos and the chicken was awful.  It was sort of prepared like Qdoba, but not the flavor.  It was chunks of chicken and the flavor was just indescribable.  The cheese sauce (again good) was hot, but then they sprinkled this feta like cheese on top and it was awful.  It stuck to your lips and to your teeth when you tried to chew the food.  I hated it and from a texture standpoint, it freaked me out.

Jerry got a dish that was very pretty, but it seemed to have a ton of cilantro in it.  I noticed on their menu EVERY item had cilantro.  They need to be called La Cilantro.  It’s a huge herb and has a lot of flavor.  Oh, and the rice, dry and plain, NO FLAVOR.

The service was really good, quick and she was nice.  That had nothing to do with the food sucking.  I would take no one here or recommend it to anyone.  We will not go back, it was not worth giving them a second chance.  Sorry just not my place.

for another point of view… shaun and i LOVE la rosita’s and have taken several people/recommended it to several, and have never received any bad feedback. like you said it’s not for everyone, but we love it. i really like the avocado dip and the cheese sauce is great. the burritos and quesadillas are so big you can have enough for lunch or dinner the next day (and it’s good warmed up). there are several locations in new albany so that has to say something for it.

See, there you have it, I know others that have like it too (you freaks ha ha). The salsa alone just freaked me out, it was so awful that I’m still just freaking out over it today. Again, the cheese sauce was great! However I won’t be going back. I’m glad, however that you liked it!

I just saw one of your faves is PF Chang’s. That really surprises me. Hm. Maybe we should have book club there one night!

I only eat chicken fried rice, but they don’t use MSG so I can eat there and not get a migraine. It’s really good. Yes, we should go there. It’s really yummy!

I’ve only eaten there twice, but loved it each time.

Yeah, me too. I only get take out for lunch and again, only one item but it’s good. Makes me feel as if I’m stepping out of the box. We all know I’m not, but come on I can pretend.
