Now, even though the price tag was over-the-top I just want you to know that I did enjoy the game.  Although it was preseason and we sucked big time. Cincinnati drummed us and apparently their really, bad preseason players are better than our really, bad preseason players.  I didn’t really get to see Peyton except once and the real bummer is that we were like 9 rows up from the end zone and when the Bengals came to the locker room we were right there, HOWEVER, Carson Palmer didn’t come to Indianapolis.

That’s right, I didn’t get to see the man!  It was a bummer.  I did get to see Utecht though and he is a little hottie!  He is there tight end and let me tell you, they are right! ha ha.  He was really nice to check out coming in from the sidelines!

Anyway, it was a great game and our seats rocked.  Unfortunately a lot of action was at the other end of the field, as again, Indy didn’t do so well during our visit!

PS:  In both of these pictures, we are doing poorly!

Indianapolis 017

This is a dark picture, but it’s the front of the stadium.  I have to tell you it was an overwhelming place to visit.

This wasn’t a football stadium, it was a resort.  I couldn’t help but think maybe it was just a little over-the-top when you consider we have starving children right here in the Indiana region.

There are restaurants inside, bars, not gift shops, but freaking department stores to shop in, food vendors everywhere, TV’s hung on the walls, real size race cars displayed in the lobby (remember we are sponsored by Lucas Oil), that big huge horseshoe in my pictures, the football player from the ceiling and it so much more.  The stadium seats 65,000 people and let me tell you when you’re looking out over it, that’s a lot of people.

We ordered two cheeseburgers, one order of fries and two soft drinks………total…….$31.00.  Yes, I typed that correctly.   Are you kidding me?  I think that is just a little over the top.  I love Peyton, but I don’t think I need to be paying for his salary and his stadium with $31.00 for a meal I can get at Holiday World for $5.00! ha ha.  It’s a little crazy and ridiculous.

I love my Colts, but this is like you’ve stepped into crazy, football world when you go here.  Check your priorities at the door dude, the question is, “Are you ready for some football?”  If so, get out your wallet cause it’s go time!

RENT THIS MOVIE!

I can’t say it any better.  Emilio Estevez gets a thumbs up from me and if you haven’t seen this movie rent it soon.  It left me with chills and I cried during the last 10 minutes.

Let’s start with the cast shall we?  Lawrence Fishburne, Henry Belafonte, Heather Graham, Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Lindsay Lohan, Sharon Stone, Helen Hunt, Shia LaBeouf, Nick Cannon, William Macy, Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez……..Shut up………….do you need anybody else?

Emilio does an amazing job of combing past footage with current footage and telling the story of the day Bobby Kennedy was shot.  It was a touching, heart felt story.

Bobby Kennedy was an amazing man and it’s an American tragedy that he did not get to fulfill the Presidential role.  He was a standup man who believed in unity for the country and spoke about it openly.  The footage they show reflects his openness to all people of all ethnic groups in the United States and he truly believed we could all live together as one.

It’s an amazing film and Emilio deserves credit for this incredible film.

RENT IT!

If you’re reading this blog, and you’re one of my friends you will understand the need for this entry as I know we’ve had this conversation many times.  In society there are rules of etiquette, unspoken rules that if you are a normal, decent person you just know how to follow them.  You follow them because you were what we called, “raised right” by our parents.  Unfortunately however, there are the ones that were not raised right and follow the “trash” rules of life.  I loathe this way of life and I stay clear of it as best as I can.  There are many classes of life as well, upper class, middle class, and lower class, but here is my point, just because you may be a little lean in the pockets does not give you the need to act like trash.  Yes, I said it; you can be less fortunate and act with class.  AND, sadly there are those that are just your common, every day people that are middle and upper class that act as if they are from the depths of Trashville, USA.  What is that all about, can anyone tell me?

Who the heck raised these people to teach them to do the things they do?  Do we really HAVE to go over these rules again?  OK, I’m a good sport so I will help out again.

  • Do not yell at your child in the middle of any store, bank, or restaurant at the top of your lungs and/or slap this child.
  • Do not yell at anyone in your group in the same places.  Can it not wait until you are in private?  Seriously!
  • Do not air your dirty laundry sitting at your desk cubicle to anyone that will listen.  Even though someone IS listening to you, for the love of Pete so many more DON’T want to hear it.
  • Do not make personal phone calls if you do not have an office and yell into the phone about personal things.  Again, we don’t need to know these things about you.
  • Do not discuss your finances and let people know your salary.  This is so unprofessional, not to mention grounds for dismissal at so many companies.
  • Full length mirrors, but I digress on this subject matter don’t I?
  • Help yourself if you want others to help you.  Until then, stop whining about how unfair life is in your world.
  • Stop having kids when you obviously can’t take care of the ones you currently have.
  • Do not write a check if you are not certain there is money in your account.  If you do and it bounces; this is your fault, not the banks fault.  End of story.
  • Do not spend money you do not have, pay your bills first and foremost.
  • Do not abuse customer service, store managers, and restaurant managers over petty issues to get attention and free items.  Most of the time they know you are scamming them and everyone around is embarrassed for you.
  • Stop the pattern with the wrong men/women in your relationships.  Take care of yourself and have some pride.

Yes, these are harsh rules of life, but they should be unspoken rules.  If you were sadly uneducated it’s never too late to start now.  Read them, learn them and put them to memory.

In my quest to purchase John Cusack movies, I had never rented this one and I certainly didn’t own it.

I bought it for I think maybe $1.00 on Amazon and I tried to watch it last night.  Notice the word tried in my sentence.  It was a bad movie night what can I say, first Miss Potter and then this!  Geesh!

It’s a fictionalized account of the relationship of a young German painter; the yet-to-be-notorious Adolf Hitler with Max Rothman, a Jewish art teacher who doesn’t nurture the fledgling artist.  It ask the question whether Hitler’s horrifying cruelty could have been prevented had he channeled his energy toward making art.

Very bizarre movie and of course fiction so I’m not sure how much anyone really knows about his early history to even think about writing something like this.  It plays to our famous group discussion, was he evil or a genius for being able to pull off what he did in Germany?  Was he born evil, did he become evil due to anger?  So many unanswered questions.  This movie answers none by the way.

John looks great, by the way, it’s his younger days and I love him.  This I can give you in the film!  He wears a nice suit throughout most of the movie and he looks good.  Other than that, this movie was not so good.

potter

This is based on the true story of Beatrix Potter, she wrote the children’s story, Peter Rabbit.

That being said, I’m not sure why anyone that she was interesting enough to create an entire movie surrounding her life.  Yes, she was an independent woman of her time, and like Jane Austen, this was frowned upon, but again, at least Jane had some intense, romance going on.

Unless you are a big fan of Renee Zellweger, so maybe Kenny Chesney has rented this a time or two, or you are a huge fan of Ewan McGregor I can’t really give you a reason to rent this movie.

I’m not sure why I did except for the history around it and the hint of Jane Austen that might be tied to it; I was wrong.  I’m glad she wrote Peter Rabbit, great book, but not interesting enough to pull down a movie.

I’m putting the Link back out on my site (under Interesting Sites) for the Cornacopia Farm.  It’s located in Scottsburg, IN and it’s a little less commercialized that Huber’s Family Farm.

We have gone there for the past few years to get our Pumpkin and to hang out for the afternoon.  It’s owned by a single family and they do a great job offering a variety of different things for the kids and family to do.

They have a great slide for the kids (see picture), they have a giant corn maze, a little hay maze for the little ones, petting zoo, tricycle bike path, corn hole, pumpkin tractor rides out to the patch to get our own pumpkin and much, much, more.

It’s a very nice place and again, it’s family owned so put check out their link and get them on your calendar for the Fall season.  I wanted to put it out there early so hopefully everyone might try to visit them.  We talked to the owner last year, Kevin Baird and he was so nice that I told him I wanted to try and get the word out to as many people as possible.  He was such a funny, good-natured guy on our pumpkin, tractor ride.  We had a blast riding out to the field to get our pumpkin.

Check it out and I hope you make time to visit their farm.

Capital Punishment as viewed in The Life of David Gale is a tough topic. I would imagine second or tied with the subject of abortion right?  Where do I stand?  Over the years I have to tell you that I have faltered; which means this is a grey area for me.  I KNOW!  We all know I don’t do grey very well.  If you just look at these pictures, they are gruesome.

My gut instinct is that when you have this horrendous person who has killed someone, or especially an innocent child, then they in return should also be killed for their actions.  I’m told if this was my child I would instantly feel this way and would want that person dead.  I’m told this by people who obviously feel this way and support the death penalty.  I’m not so sure I always agree.

Now, the flip side of course is that we are saying that to kill is wrong and then in turn we are killing that person as recourse for killing???  How is that a correct, non hypocritical punishment?  Now the flip side of that is our correctional facilities are overflowing with hardened criminals that continuously hurt and kill others.  It’s a vicious circle that unfortunately we can’t correct.

We all know the heart of this problem lies within the family unit and fighting against drugs on our streets, guns, the violence we allow on our TVs and videos and the lenience we give our children, adults and criminals that do wrong on their first offences.

The family unit is something that is critical in a society and you can define a family unit as you so need to, but there must be family values for a child in order for them to know right from wrong growing up.  A child left to do as he pleases and a child with no guidance, structure and acceptance will look for these things elsewhere.  They WILL find it in drugs, alcohol, TV, gangs, child molesters, etc.  Don’t allow this to happen.  Give a child what they need so they don’t have to search for it elsewhere.

If less children turn to violence we wouldn’t have to worry about capital punishment as the crime rate would go down.  If more children would make better decisions about life then there could be less gang activity, less drug purchasing, less alcohol dependency.  It’s about family issues and what a child needs up front, now, from that family unit.

Do you know a child that is not getting this and can you step up and help them?  Do you silently sit back and just think, “Well they aren’t my responsibility, why should I get involved?”  Do something, tell someone, volunteer, get involved.  We all should try to help children. That is the core of fixing issues.

I can’t say how I truly feel about capital punishment and I hope I never have to be forced with dealing face-to-face with it.  For those that have, my heart goes out to them.  I can’t imagine.  We need more family values and maybe it COULD get better.  It’s not a secret we all know it.  One child at a time is all it takes.

This is an older movie (2003) so a lot of you may have seen it.  I just hadn’t watched it yet.  Jacob, you are right, Kevin Spacey rocks!

I also love Laura Linney so this was just a really great movie. It’s full of suspense, drama and a great twist, well two twist in the end.  Kate Winslet does a great job in her role as the reporter trying to prove Kevin’s character’s innocence.

It’s about capital punishment and how David’s character is an advocate for the cause and then ironically is put up on charges for murder and sentenced to death in TX.  Did he do it?  That is the cliff hanger of course.

Kevin Spacey is the king of kings when it comes to suspense, classy roles and just pure, perfect acting.  This guy is good!

If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out!
